How to Prevent DTF White Ink Sedimentation and Clogging.

(Non-clogging,Nozzle-safe,Smooth printing, how to do it?)

By  Wendy SHI  on  August 13th, 2026

"Everyone in the printing industry knows that no matter how many different kind of the DTF white ink, from the top quality to common quality, after long-distance transportation, by the time it reaches the customer, it will still have sedimentation. There is no way to avoid this." We are an ink manufacture and have a deep understanding of ink. The basic components of ink are titanium dioxide, resin, and glycerin. The most prone to settling is titanium dioxide. Even if the most expensive titanium dioxide is used to produce DTF white ink, it will still settle — the only difference is the speed of settling, some are faster, some are slower.

How does white ink settling affect the print quality?

When DTF white ink has settled, the print result will be very light and the color will be uneven.

If the DTF white ink is not shaken well, the ink poured out will be very thin, and may even feel like water. This is because the ink has separated into layers: the upper layer is glycerin and water, and the lower layer is titanium dioxide and resin. Therefore, it needs to be shaken thoroughly for 3–5 minutes before printing.

If the ink is poured directly into the ink cartridge without shaking, it can easily cause nozzle clogging and damage the printhead.

So, DTF white ink must be shaken well before printing.

How to replace new DTF ink?

How to keep Smooth printing with long standby without clogging.

If you are switching to ink from a different manufacturer, how should you proceed and what steps should you take to better protect the printer and printhead?

1. All the ink in the ink cartridges, including the ink in the pipes, needs to be extracted using a syringe, and then cleaned thoroughly with purified water. The original ink must be completely drained from the system.

2.  If you flush the cartridge with water, you must ensure all water is thoroughly emptied.Too much water remaining in the ink cartridge will dilute the ink and affect the print quality."

3. Wash the cartridge only with purified water or "Distilled water, not tap water."can not use the printhead cleaning solution to wash the cartridge, the cleaning solution dissolves the ink, inducing a chemical reaction, This contaminates the entire ink batch.

NOTE:"The print head cleaning solution can clean the print head intelligently, but it cannot clean the ink cartridge."

4. After finished this steps. You can refill the new ink now.

5. "Also note that you need to use a syringe to draw the ink over, expel the air inside, and make sure there is no air in the ink tube. Then your printer will give you the professional result.

Daily Maintenance (Frequent Printing)

1.Before printing, print a test pattern to check if any nozzles are missing or clogged. If there are missing nozzles, clean the print head. Once the test pattern is fine, start the day's printing.

2.Shake the white ink well before pouring it into the ink cartridge.

3.After finishing the day's work, apply a moisturizing solution (or maintenance fluid) to the capping station / ink pad to keep the print head moist. This prevents the nozzles from drying out and clogging. Performing this maintenance daily helps extend the print head's lifespan.

Daily Maintenance (Infrequent Printing)

1.Print a test pattern to check the print head condition. If there is slight clogging, run the printer's automatic cleaning cycle.

3.Clean the printhead every 2 days. After cleaning, print a test pattern to check."

2 .Clean the printhead every 2 days. After cleaning, print a test pattern to check."

2.If you do not print frequently, run the white ink circulation system for at least 20 to 30 minutes every 1 to 2 days. This ensures the ink inside the lines keeps flowing, preventing damage to the print head.

3.If you do not print frequently, run the white ink circulation system for at least 20 to 30 minutes every 1 to 2 days. This ensures the ink inside the lines keeps flowing, preventing damage to the print head.

4."If the test strip is incomplete, (5 or more missing lines: Clean the print head again and recheck its status.)you need to activate the ink filling system to make the ink in the damper more full. Load ink at least 5–8 seconds."

5."If you are going to be away from the office for a few days, make sure to pour moisturizing fluid onto the ink pad and soak the printhead in it. This will keep the printhead moist and prevent clogging."

Create the Right Environment

Ink is highly sensitive to both temperature and humidity. For optimal performance:

Temperature: Keep your workspace between 20–25°C (68–77°F)

Humidity: Maintain levels between 40%–60%

If the environment is too dry, ink will dry out at the nozzle openings. If it's too humid, print quality and drying times can be negatively affected.

Summary

you should buy top-quality DTF ink. Poor-quality ink can easily clog the print head and result in poor print quality. We are an ink manufacture with 15 years of experience in ink production. Welcome to consult us about any questions regarding DTF ink.
